London Happenings #1

New York may have amazingly cool bars and restaurants with themes like Beauty Bar or Barcade, however nothing can beat London when it comes to the unofficial and transient. 


London is home to a plethora of pop-up restaurants, bars and shops. I can think of at least 4 'roaming' secret cinemas, so many galeries and in the summer you could go to a different festival everyday. 


It's hard to keep track of all there is to do in this amazing city I call home but I thought I would take a stab. I am hoping to start this series to pass on knowledge about what London has to offer while also inspiring people to try some new things!


#1 of the series is about the Society of the Golden Slippers

Every 3rd Monday of the month The Society of the Golden Slippers puts on a candlelit show of up and coming musicians at Blacks on Dean St. You have to be following their Facebook page or on their mailing list to find out about the next concert and who will be playing. Gigs are free but you have to get on the guest list- which is apparently hard. 

Their next show is on the 16th July with Josh Kumra, Alexandre Wolfe and Kimberly Anne. These guys all sounds amazing with just their voices and guitars so I image, by candlelight, it's going to be a show to remember.

Someone at work sent me the link to 'incredibox'- a build your own barbershop come beatbox group. Choose the beats/ rhythm that you want your guys to play and hey presto! music. 


This does become very addicting. But the best part, you can't make it sound bad! It makes you feel awesome and super talented.

Annnd we're back!

Well it's pretty obvious I haven't posted in a while. Sorry!
The detox (although I did it and feel great) combined with my first week at my new job has meant that I was a bit distracted this past week. 
But I've given myself a pep talk and am ready to get back in the game!

First I do have to give a shout out to Raw and Juicy. Their amazing juices kept me going the whole weekend. I never felt famished and I had enough energy to keep going. I thought  I was going to be like a hungry bear waking up right after hibernation so I was prepared to lock myself in my room and stay away from all human beings- but I wasn't!


One comment asked whether it was better than making your own juices. For me, I loved the surprise in flavors (if you made your own you know exactly what you're getting at all times) and I also enjoyed having all the juices at hand in the fridge. If I did get hungry, I probably would not want to spend the time to get out the juicer, find the vegetables and  make it all myself and then have to clean it up (then again, I am very lazy). It was so easy to have everything at my finger tips, the juices were tasty, and the regime came with many other goodies like bath salts and lots of healthy vitamins and minerals. 


On a completely different note, I've been looking for some new headphones for the olde ipod. Urbanears caught my eye (ears?) because of their amazing colors, quality sound and simple designs.

Bastille

I seem to not be able to get enough dubstep at the moment. I didn't even know I liked dubstep, in fact, I thought dubstep was a weird drum and base/hip hop/psychedelic thing. BUT NO, it's this amazing combination of vocals and deep base.

Last week it was Alex Clare this week it's Bastille. 

I don't know who he is or where he comes from (not that I couldn't find out, just adds a bit of mystery) but take a listen to his tracks and tell me you don't become addicted.

I can't seem to find Bastille 'Flaws' to download and UK itunes has taken it down. But I'm on the search and will let you know as soon as I find it. 


Download their album of covers 'Other People's Heartache' . I'm a particular fan of his version of 'What would you do?' by City High.
